Have you ever heard a noise, in your house, late at night and not sure how to check your home safely? If you answered yes then this class is for you. We will focus mainly on the shotgun but the techniques you learn will be the same for a handgun, rifle, baseball bat or whatever weapon you can get your hands on to defend your family.

On March 10th and 11th CTIA is going to host a Tactical Shotgun Camp. The camp is going to be held at the Global One range in Fairfield UT. We will cover many aspects of the shotgun, it’s effectiveness and versatility. This will be a shooting class, not a classroom instruction. Come prepared to shoot your shotguns and learn some great things about how to use your shotgun for personal defense.

Day one we will go over some reloading drills and how to properly do a slug change over. If you are not familiar with a slug change over by the end of the day you will know what it is and how easy it is to do, even under stress. We are going to cover low light shooting and how to use flashlights to your benefit. We will also work on shooting from different positions and from behind cover. A local SWAT/Paramedic will be on hand to teach you how to treat gunshot wounds, self care and some buddy rescues.

There are many specialty rounds for the shotgun. We will have some on display and some to demo. We will have bullet proof glass normally used in armored vehicles and determine the effects of several types of shotgun rounds on it.

Day two will be a full day of shooting. Moving and shooting is very important no matter what weapon system you are using. A moving target is much harder to hit than a stationary one. You are also going to learn how to shoot and operate a shotgun with one hand. We will use both strong and weak hand shooting. Our motto is train for the worst and hope for the best.See you out there!

Rich Clawson is employed full time at a local agency. He is assigned to a Metro SWAT Team as an Entry Team Member and Breacher. He is an Adjunct Instructor here at the CTIA.

TATP- The Mother of Satan

A few days ago a group of Iranian terrorists attacker several civilian targets that they hoped would victimize Israeli tourists in Thailand. The devices they used were $27.00 portable radios with with plastic explosives and ball bearings. Such devices are commonly used by terrorists. One of the most common explosives used in these devices is made from every day household chemicals. It is called TATP or the Mother of Satan as coined by Palestinian terrorists.  
TATP stands for for the chemicals used to make it,Acetone, Peroxide and an acid. Hence the name TriAcetone Triperoxide. Terrorist are taught the recipe for this explosive at terror camps. They also get it off the web. The picture above this article is the result of a bombing at a train station in Spain a few year ago. Notice the complete carnage. The explosive, when properly made can be 80% as effective as commercial TNT.Acetone peroxide was discovered in 1895 by Richard Wolffenstein.He was the first chemist to use inorganic acids as catalysts. He was also the first researcher to receive a patent for using the peroxide as an explosive compound.
When terrorists decide to become operational, they do not often have access to military or commercial explosives. They have to make them. In this case they must buy large quantities of the precursor chemicals. This is not difficult. These chemicals are widely available all over the world. Once they have obtained enough chemicals, they have to start the COOKING process. TATP is made in a very similar fashion as Meth. The process, smells and stench of chlorine bleach are very similar to Meth.
TATP got the name Mother of Satan from the terrorists who started using it back in the 1980s. It is very volatile and unstable. It is sensitive to temperature changes, light, heat and impact. It normally reduces to a crystalline powder form that looks very much like laundry detergent. It can also be used as a liquid. The same type TATP used in the Spanish bombings were also used in the bus bombings in London.
TATP is easy to make and very effective. It is easily detonated with almost anything. One of its weaknesses is that once it is made, it has to be used soon afterwards. It oxidizes and loses it’s explosive power fairly quickly.
So what? What is that to you? It is important that you understand it because you are the Sheepdogs of our society. That is why you are getting this newsletter. We need your eyes and ears. Knowing the make up of TATP you can watch for people buying large quantities of the chemicals. What reason could anyone have for 55 gallons of acetone or many gallons of peroxide? It may be completely innocent. Maybe not. We just want you to report it to law enforcement. Let them check it out. That is what good citizens do. Be ever watchful. They are already here. We have no way of knowing when it will start.
